How do I put a design on a USB?
Many embroidery machines read designs from a USB drive. Here are some tips on how to load your new Embroidery Library designs onto your embroidery machine via USB:
1) Insert the USB Drive
Plug the USB drive into an available USB port on your computer or laptop.
2) Find the Design File
Locate the embroidery design file you want to transfer on your computer. Right-click on the file to open the action menu.
3) Send the File to the USB Drive
From the action menu, select "Send to" , then choose your USB drive from the list of options.
4) Eject the USB Drive Safely
After the file has been copied, safely eject the USB drive from your computer to avoid file corruption.
5) Transfer to Embroidery Machine
Insert the USB drive into the USB port on your embroidery machine.
Now you can navigate to the USB location on your embroidery machine and select your design for stitching.

The storage size of your USB device matters! Some machines don't like large storage space USB drives.
Tips for Opening Designs in Computer Software
If you have embroidery software installed on your computer, then you can use it to open embroidery designs. Reference the software's instruction manual to find the steps. Usually the steps are as simple as opening the software and choosing "file" and "open" from the software's toolbar.

If you do NOT have embroidery software installed on your computer, then do not attempt to open embroidery designs on your computer.
When embroiderers have problems opening designs, it's usually due to one of these reasons:
1) Embroidery software is not installed on the computer.
2) Design is zipped - Some embroidery software programs cannot open zipped files. If yours cannot, unzip the file and extract the embroidery design. Then use the software to open the design.
3) Double clicking on the design gives an error message. - When you double-click on a file, that sends a message to your computer advising that you want to open the file. If your computer doesn't know which program to use, it might choose something basic, like Paint or Media Player or Adobe, or give you a "Windows doesn't know which program to use to open the design..." error message.
If you have embroidery software installed on your computer, make sure your computer has the correct "file association" between the file and the software. For example, if I want to always open PES files with Embird, I would set a "file association" in my computer between Embird and the PES extension. Then, when I double-click on a PES file to open it, my computer will use Embird to open the file.
The steps for setting a file association will vary depending on your computer's operating system. In most instances you can right click on a design that is on your computer, choose "open with," and select the embroidery software that you have from the list of recommended programs. Then, check the box that says "always use the selected program to open this kind of file."
My Machine Won't Read the Design
If you see the file on your USB, but your machine doesn't display it (or gives you an error message) check the following:
1) Design too large for the machine
Is your machine's embroidery area/hoop too small? A machine won't read or display a design that's larger than what it can stitch.
2) Wrong format
Check that the design file is the correct format for your embroidery machine. You can check out reference list of machine formats here.
3) The design file is in a zipped format
Is the design unzipped? Machines cannot read zipped files.
4) Check the design name
Did you change the name of the design? If you changed the name to something that includes special characters, like %($#@^&*, or if you deleted the file extension, then your machine may not be able to read the design and will not display it.
5) Check USB capacity
Is the capacity/size of the USB too large? I have two USBs; one has a 64MB capacity, the other is much larger, 16GB. Our Brother Innovis won't read anything off of the 16GB drive, it needs the smaller drive.
6) Do you have many files on the USB drive?
Some machines will only recognize the first 100 files on a USB. If you're having trouble with your machine reading a design, remove all the other files from the USB so that only the one that you're working with remains.
