Denim Door Hanger

Denim Door Hanger

Add a cute and crafty denim door hanger to your home for tons of flair and personality. Raw fringe on the edges of this door hanger give it a homey look, while denim adds a rustic look.

Supplies & Materials:

Project Materials or Supplies
- Denim (size varies depending on the design used)
- Medium-weight (2.5 ounce) cutaway stabilizer
- Seam ripper for fringing
- Interfacing
- Ribbon for hanging

The designs used in this tutorial include:

- F9652, Birds on a Wire Clothesline

Cut a piece of denim a little larger than the hoop that you'll use to stitch the design.

Hoop the denim with one piece of cutaway stabilizer.

Embroider the design.

After embroidering, trim the stabilizer away from the back. Leave about 1/2" around the design.

Draw a rectangle around the design, leaving 2" around all sides.

Cut out the rectangle.

Cut a piece of denim the same size for the back.

Use interfacing to keep the door hanger from sagging when it's done. Cut a piece of interfacing 2" smaller than the rectangle.

Place the back piece of denim right side down, then add the interfacing.

Add the embroidered piece, right side up.

Stitch together, 1" from the edge.

Fringe the edges to add texture.

Attach a ribbon for hanging.

High nap fabrics like faux fur and thick terrycloth can create even more textural effects and are particularly fun with animal machine embroidery designs.

A heavy water-soluble stabilizer topping is key to success when stitching embossed designs on high nap fabrics.
