Embroidered Garden Gloves Bouquet

What do you get when you combine stunning embroidery, beautiful blooms, and a pair of old gardening gloves? A charming and creative hanging garden bouquet! Simply add a ribbon and hang on your front door, garden shed, or on your patio.

Supplies & Materials:

Project Materials or Supplies
- Garden gloves
- Small pieces of denim for embroidered panels
- Double-stick fusible web
- Medium-weight (2.5 ounce) cutaway stabilizer
- Air-erase pen
- 7/8" wide ribbon
- Polyester fiberfill
- Craft thread and large, sharp, tapestry needle
- Faux flowers

The designs used in this tutorial include:

Gather Materials:

Begin by measuring the glove to determine the size that you want your embroidered panel to be.

The panels used in this example are 4" x 4 1/2".

Cut two pieces of denim a little larger than your hoop.

Using an air-erase pen, draw rectangles on the fabric to the panel dimensions (4" x 4 1/2").

A template, or printout of a design, is an excellent tool to help with placement.

Print a template of the design from your embroidery software.

We also recommend Wilcom's Hatch software which comes in different levels depending on what you'd like to use the software for. Place the template in the center of the drawn rectangle. Make sure it fits comfortably, with at least 1/2" of space between the edges of the design and the edges of the rectangle.

Mark the center point, as well as the vertical and horizontal axis lines.

Start Embroidering:

Hoop the denim with a piece of cutaway stabilizer, lining up the marks on the fabric with the marks on the hoop.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the embroidery design. Move the hoop so the needle is right over the center point.

Embroider the design.

Repeat the steps to embroider a second panel for the other glove.

After embroidering, trim the stabilizer away from the back. I leave about 1/2" around the design.

Next, cut out the rectangles.

Cut two pieces of double stick fusible web that are 1/2" smaller than the embroidered panels. 

Apply the web to the backside of both of the panels.

Arrange the panels on the top section of the gloves and iron them in place according to the fusible web instructions. 

You may use a pressing cloth over the embroidery if you wish.

Use craft thread and a tapestry needle to hand stitch around the embroidered panels, 1/2" in from the outer edges.

Fringe the outer edges of the fabric a bit by removing some of the weave. 

Stuff the thumb and fingers of the glove with polyester fiberfill.

Cut two 32" lengths of ribbon. Fold one end of the ribbon over 1/2 inch and center it along the top of the backside of the glove.

Sew the ribbon in place. 

Do this for each glove.

Lay the gloves with one lower than the other and tie the strips of ribbon together into a knot 12" up from the tops of the gloves.

Then, tie the ribbon into a bow, and fill the gloves with faux flowers.
