Evening Wrap

Evening Wrap

An airy, elegant wrap is perfect over an evening dress or to dress up your "basic black." The organza's shining glow will add a spark of color to any formal affair.

Nativity Toile embroidery designs from Embroidery Library are sewn in gold on both the front and back, bringing added richness and texture to this light wrap. A beaded trim adds a festive holiday flair.

Supplies & Materials:

- 1/2 yard of 60" wide organza fabric.

- 1 yard of coordinating beaded trim

- heavy-weight, water- soluble stabilizer (WSS)

The designs used in this tutorial include:

-ย Nativity Stable- Toile

- Angel and Star- Toile

Begin by marking center points for the embroidery in the center and on each end of the fabric.

We sewed 3 designs on the wrap. For each design, hoop the fabric with one layer of heavy, water-soluble stabilizer.

White rectangular embroidery hoop with fabric stretched inside, placed on shiny dark red satin fabric background. No embroidery visible.

Sew out the Nativity Stable design in the center of the fabric and the Angel and Star designs on each end. For reversible embroidery, use the same color thread in both the top and bobbin.

Red satin fabric with three sheer panels embroidered with gold and pink angelic figures holding stars, arranged in a triangular pattern.

Trim away the excess stabilizer from around the designs, and hem all four edges of the fabric.

Soak or launder the fabric to remove the WSS.

Note: Hemming will prevent the edges from unraveling in the wash.

Sheer dark red scarf or shawl with sparkly thread and embroidered gold floral and leaf patterns on each end, laid flat on a dark surface.

When the fabric is dry, stitch the trim to the short ends of your fabric rectangle.

Dark red silk fabric evening wrap with embroidered gold floral motifs on each end and a fringe trim along the bottom edge, laid flat on a dark surface.

This wrap is very versatile. Use it to cover your head on a breezy day, as a wrap for your shoulders, or tie it around your waist to make a pretty overskirt.
