Supplies & Materials:
- Shirt of your choice
- Stabilizer; cut-away
- Spray adhesive
Collar Tips Instructions
Hoop your cut-away stabilizer and baste a stitching line around the perimeter of the design.
Remove the hoop from your machine, and spray the basted area with adhesive.
Place the hoop back in your machine, and place the tip of the collar over the basted area. Make sure that the collar is correctly oriented. Press the collar down firmly.
Baste again, to hold the collar in place while embroidering.
Embroider the design.
Repeat for the other collar tip.
Pocket Topper Instructions
To place the design, measure the top edge of the shirt pocket and make a mark up from the center of the pocket. I recommend measuring twice to make sure that your placement is perfect. (My first mark, on the right was incorrect, so I had to make a second mark to the left, which is correct.)
The vertical dimension of this design is 40mm, so I measured up half the 40 mm (20mm) and added 5mm for clearance over the pocket. Make a mark at 25 mm through the center mark that you made earlier. This will be the center starting point for the design. To keep it out of the way, fold the pocket fabric down a little and hold it with a piece of masking tape.
Because today's garments are mass produced, sometimes there are slight imperfections in the workmanship. So, If your pocket is slightly askew, line the design up with the top of the pocket rather than with the grain of the fabric. Visually, it will look straight.Â
Button Placket Instructions
Measure the space between the buttonholes and mark a line across the placket. Then, measure the width of the placket and mark a vertical line through the first line. The intersecting point will be the center starting point of the embroidery design.
Spray about half of your piece of stabilizer with adhesive and stick the button placket down on the sticky half. Hoop the stabilizer with the placket as shown. Make sure that the placket is straight in the hoop.
Place the hoop in your machine and center the design over that starting point. Baste a stitching line around the perimeter of the design. This will hold the placket in place and help make sure that the design placement is perfectly straight.
Sew out your embroidery design. Repeat until you have several spaces between buttons filled in the placket. I did three, which looks very nice, but you can do as many as you like.
Feature Design Instructions
The feature design in the set can go anywhere on the garment that your heart desires. I decided that I wanted it on the back! So I measured the width of the back yoke and placed the design just below the yoke in the center back.
As with the pocket topper, I measured the height of the design and divided it in half and then added the amount of space that I wanted between the yoke and the embroidery.
I then took that combined measurement and made a mark down from center. That was my center starting point.
I really liked the way this design turned out, especially the bold statement on the back.
I made this shirt as a gift for my mother, an expert quilter, and I know that she is going to love it! I am also going to raid my closet, and see if I can find any shirts for myself that I think can give some embroidered love.
