- 2" x 2" square of medium weight cut away stabilizer
- Tearaway stabilizer
- Temporary spray adhesive (such as Gunold KK100)

Gather Materials:
This in-the-hoop Vinyl Candy Ornament design has three files. One is the full embroidery file, and the other two are dieline files marked 'DL'.
The dieline files are marked with the letters "DL". These files are used to cut the fabric pieces to the right shape and size. Each dieline file has two shapes to print and cut out for a total of four shapes total.
Open and print each dieline file using an embroidery software. If you do not have an embroidery software, take a look at our helpful video on using dielines.
We also recommend Wilcom's Hatch software which comes in different levels depending on what you'd like to use the software for. Tape the printed dieline for the large front piece (X14409_DLfront) to a piece of vinyl.
Spray the back side of the printed dieline (X14409_DLback) for the back fabric pieces with a small amount of temporary adhesive. Smooth it onto a piece of felt.
Spray the back side of the printed dieline (X14409_DLfront) for the top of the ornament with a small amount of temporary adhesive. Smooth it onto a piece of satin. Add cut-away stabilizer to the back of the satin fabric.
Cut out the shapes and remove the paper.
Start Embroidering:
Now that the fabric pieces are cut to the proper shape and size, it's time to embroider the design. Hoop a piece of tear-away stabilizer.
Madeira E-Zee Tear 1.5 oz. or Floriani Tearaway Medium are good choices. Those brands are more fibrous, less paper-like, and will tear more cleanly.
Attach the hoop to the machine and load the full embroidery design (not the dieline files).
Use a size 11 or 75/11 sharp sewing needle, rather than an embroidery needle. A sharp sewing needle has a smaller, finer point than an embroidery needle, so that will make smaller perforations in the stabilizer.
Embroider the design. The first thing to embroider will be a dieline or outline. This marks the area on the stabilizer for the back fabric pieces.
Remove the hoop from the machine, but do not unhoop the stabilizer. Spray the back side of the top half of the back fabric piece with adhesive, and place it inside the sewn outline.
Next, spray and place the back bottom piece over the top piece. Make sure the bottom back piece is on top of the top back piece. This will make the back opening easier to use when putting candy into the ornament.
Attach the hoop back onto the machine and continue with the design. A tack down will sew next. This holds the fabric in place for the remainder of the design. Then all of the inside elements will be embroidered.
On the color change sheet, look for the note that says "preliminary vinyl tack down".
When you get to this section, stop the machine and remove the hoop from the machine, but do not unhoop the stabilizer. Lay the vinyl piece over the back pieces. Use masking tape to avoid shifting.
Cut a 7" length of ribbon or yarn and fold it into a loop. Use masking tape to center the loop at the top of the vinyl piece. Tape the ribbon hanger to the side of the hoop so that it will not be sewn over in the remaining steps.
Attach the hoop to the machine and sew the "preliminary vinyl tack downs". Then remove the hoop from the machine, but do not unhoop the stabilizer.
Remove the masking tape.
Return the hoop to the machine. Next, the "vinyl tack down" will sew, followed by the "socket" dieline.
Remove the hoop from the machine, but do not unhoop the stabilizer. Spray the stabilizer side of "socket" piece with adhesive, and place it inside the sewn dieline/outline.
Since both sides of the ornament will be seen, wind a bobbin with the same thread used for the finishing borders.
Attach the hoop back to the machine and continue embroidering the design.
A tack down stitch will sew around the outer edge of the ornament, followed by the finished satin edge. This binds all the layers together.
Once the embroidery is finished, remove the hoop from the machine and gently tear the ornament from the tear-away stabilizer.
Remove the excess stabilizer from the back of the design, and fill the ornament with candy and treats!
