British Columbia Heritage Quilt
Created By Joyce
I was visiting British Columbia 2 years ago and happened upon 2 books that were meant to be coloring books for Native children to help learn about their heritage. I immediately thought "applique". On a return visit, I found a third book that explained the ovoids, crests etc. However that was as far as I got until I found the embroideries on your web site. To say that I was excited is an understatement. I enlarged one of the drawings , the Raven releasing the sun , and appliqued it in the center block. He was looking rather lonely so I added the heads of the Eagle, the Owl , the Wolf and the Killer Whale. For the label, I typed up the legend and printed it off on fabric. Then, I used the corner embroidery and some of the border embroideries, added my name and the year I made it. I am delighted with it and much to my surprise, have had several opportunities to sell it. I did the embroideries on muslin. Anyway, I just thought you might like to see what I did with your beautiful embroideries. I realize it may not to be everyone's taste but I have had a lot of compliments on it. I am now planning one using the dream catchers. Please pass my compliments on to the digitizer. I am also sending along a picture of a quilt I made for my " God-grandson". His Daddy is a dedicated fireman and I was again delighted to find just what I wanted for the quilt , a teddybear dressed like a fireman. Again, very pleased with the digitizing. I am also going to use the teddybear and the scraps from the quilt to make a growth chart. When we were visiting family in BC , I bought 2 coloring books which I used to plan the center block. But, you can imagine my excitement when I was surfing your web site and found the embroideries. They were just what I needed to finish my project.
