Peacock Pin Cushion and Thread Catcher
Created By Donna
I have inherited dark blue walls that are texturized to simulate denim from my son's bedroom. I was thinking "peacocks" for my sewing room theme. When I saw the Birds and Feathers Watercolors on the new release page recently, I fell in love. I knew exactly what I wanted to do for embellishment for my new sewing room. So, here is my very FIRST embroidery machine project. I used the Feather1 design for the thread catcher bag. It is so vibrant and textured. For my peacock pin cushion, I used Feather 2 design, with a few re-sizes and some subtle color changes between feathers on a white muslin. I then backed each feather with peacock blue fabric, sewed very close straight stitches around the feather fronds. Then I clipped around those fronds about 1/8 of an inch, figuring that the fronds would roll and add dimension. Also, the slight feathery fraying of the rustic cut of fabric would also add texture. I am thrilled. Next project: the full peacock for a wall hanging. After that I may just have to do some of the other birds; they are beautiful and meticulously digitized. Thank you.
