Bedside Caddy

Reading in bed is one of life's little luxuries, and I am  ready to curl up with a good book!  

The cold winter months are the perfect time to snuggle under the covers to page through a magazine, watch a movie, or read another chapter in a really good book. So we came up with this little bedside caddy that will keep your books, magazines, and even the remote control organized and at your fingertips. 

Supplies

Supplies needed:

  • 1/2 yard light-colored fabric

  • 1/2 yard printed fabric

  • 3/8 yard light-weight craft batting

  • 1 package of extra wide double-fold bias tape

Instructions: 

On one end of the light-colored fabric, mark a rectangle that is 14 inches wide by 12 inches high. Mark a line vertically down the center of the rectangle.

Center the embroidery on each side of the bottom half of the marked rectangle.

From the light-colored fabric, the print fabric, and the batting, cut a rectangle from each that is 14 inches wide and 22 inches high.

Cut out the embroidered rectangle.

From the printed fabric, cut out a rectangle that is 14 inches wide by 18 inches tall.

Making the pockets

Fold the embroidered rectangle in half so that you will now have a rectangle that is 6 inches high and 14 inches wide, with the fold at the top.

Fold the smaller printed rectangle in half so that you have a piece that is 9 inches high and 14 inches wide. The fold should also be at the top.  Lay the embroidered piece on top of the printed piece so that the bottom and side raw edges meet together.

Using a satin stitch, sew  along the marked dividing line through both fabrics to create two separate front pockets.

Lay out the larger rectangles with the batting sandwiched between the fabric. The right sides of both fabrics should be facing out.

Lay the assembled pockets on top of the larger rectangles so that the bottom and side raw edges meet. Baste around the entire edge of the caddy about 1/4 inch from the edge.

Encase the raw edges on all four sides with the bias tape.

Here you can see the finished caddy. 

Slide the top 10 inches between the mattress and box spring of your bed. The weight of the mattress holds it in place beautifully!
