First, prepare the front pocket fabric. 

Cut a piece of the pocket fabric (we used lightweight canvas) a little larger than your hoop.

Then, draw a 4 inch by 4 inch square on the fabric.

With an air-erase pen (or other marking tool), mark the center of each side of the square by measuring and dividing by two. Draw lines to connect the marks. Where the lines meet is the center of the pocket.

If you have embroidery software, print a template of the design to use for placement. If you don't have embroidery software, you can cut a piece of paper the shape and dimensions of the design to help with placement and centering.

Trim around the design, poke a hole in center and align the template on the center point on the fabric. Make sure the design fits well within the shape, leaving at least one inch of space between the edges of the design and the edges of the shape.

Remove the template. 

Spray a piece of cutaway stabilizer with adhesive and smooth the fabric on top.

Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together by aligning the marks on the hoop with the lines on the fabric.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design.  Move the hoop so that the needle is directly over the center point on the fabric and begin embroidering.

When the design has finished, unhoop the fabric and cut out the shape.

Now prepare the back of the pocket.

Cut a second piece of pocket fabric 4 inches by 4 inches. Lay it on top of the embroidered piece with the right sides together. 

Pin in place.

Sew a 1/4 inch seam along the side and top edges. Be sure to leave the bottom edge open for turning.

Turn the pocket right side out and use the end of a pen or pencil to push out the corners.

Press the seams with an iron. 

Then, fold the open end in 1/4 inch and press in place.

Top stitch a 1/4 inch seam along the top edge only.

Prepare the front pillow fabric by drawing a 9 1/2 inch by 9 1/2 inch square on the fabric  (we are using polyester shantung). 

Leave a couple of inches of excess fabric around the shape.

Using a paper template of the design as you did earlier, position the template and the pocket on the front pillow fabric. 

Place the template and pocket about 1 1/4 inches from the outer sides to the side edges of the shape and center them top to bottom by measuring equal distances between the centers and the top and bottom edges of the shape. 

Poke a hole in the center of the template and mark the fabric. Also, mark the horizontal and vertical axis points. And, mark the fabric at each corner of the pocket so that it can be positioned perfectly later on.

Remove the pocket and template, then draw lines connecting the axis marks of the template. These lines will be used for hooping. 

Spray a piece of cutaway stabilizer and smooth the fabric on top. 

Attach the hoop to the machine, load the design, and move the needle so that it's directly over the center point on the fabric. 

Embroider the design.

When the design has finished, unhoop the fabric and trim away the excess stabilizer on the back of the embroidery.

Place the pocket on the fabric next to the embroidery aligning it with the marks on the fabric.

Pin in place.

Sew a 1/8 inch seam along the side and bottom edges - not the top edge.

Prepare the ribbon ties by cutting two 20 inch pieces of each color of ribbon (four 20 inch pieces total). 

Pair up the ribbon by aligning the ends together and laying them right side down about one inch from each top corner of the front embroidered pillow piece. 

Pin in place.

Roll the loose ends of the ribbon together and tape them in place in the center of the embroidered piece. This will prevent the ends of the ribbons from being accidentally sewn.

Prepare the back pillow piece by cutting a piece of the pillow fabric 9 1/2 inches by 9 1/2 inches. 

Align the fabric on top of the embroidered piece with the right sides together and pin in place. 

Sew a 1/2 inch seam along the bottom, side, and top edges, leaving about 3 open inches along the center of the bottom edge. 

Sew back and forth over the ribbon a couple times to strengthen the hold.

Turn the pillow right side out and remove the tape from the ribbons. 

Then, stuff the pillow with fiberfill.

Turn the fabric of the opening in 1/2 inch and hand sew it shut.

For an extra special touch, you can add ribbon above and below the embroidery.

Glue one end of the ribbon in place along one of the side seams. Then, wrap the ribbon around the pillow, trim the ribbon, and glue the opposite end in place at the seam where you started.

Create the hanger by tying the ribbons into a bow and trim the ends to size.
