Embroidered Ottoman Slipcover

Bring the warm, tranquil glow of Tuscany into your home with an embellished ottoman slipcover. Turn a simple piece of furniture into an eye-catching conversation piece.

Supplies needed:

**Cube ottoman
**1 yard home decor fabric (drapery prints). The amount of fabric required will vary according to the size of the ottoman.
**2 yards decorative trim

Steps To Complete

First, cut the fabric to the size that you need. Measure the sides and the top of your ottoman, and add 1/2" to each measurement for seam allowances.

The ottoman that we have is a 16" cube. We cut five 16 1/2" x 16 1/2" squares.

Four squares are for the sides, and one square (shown in coordinating decorator fabric) is for the top.

Embroider as many pieces as you'd like. We want the Tuscan urn embroidery to be on two sides of the slipcover, so we embroidered two pieces of fabric.

Drapery fabrics tend to be quite heavy, so we backed the fabric with a medium weight-tear-away stabilizer.

Hem the bottom of the side pieces. Press a 1/4" hem on the bottom edge of each side piece.

Using a hem stitch, finish the hem all along the bottom of each side piece.

Next, attach the side pieces to the top piece, along with a fringe trim. Lay the top piece right side up. Lay the first side piece right side down and line it up with the top piece.

Tuck the trim, starting 1/4" from the edge, between the top and side pieces with the fringe facing to the inside. Pin into place.

Sew the first side piece, the top piece, and the trim together with a 1/4" seam starting 1/4" in from one end. Sew along that side and end 1/4" from the other end.

Starting and stopping 1/4" from each end will allow room for the sides to be sewn later.

Repeat these steps for each side, adding each side to the top piece.

Next, sew the sides together, finishing the cover. Align the edges of the sides, right sides together, paying close attention to line up the bottom edge perfectly. Pin into place.

Sew a 1/4" seam, starting at the bottom edge (hems) all along the side. Repeat this for each side.

Turn the cover inside out and slip it over the ottoman.
