We chose to remove the existing trim on our bouquet collar. If your collar has existing trim, you can choose to keep it and add the satin trim on top.

To remove the existing trim, gently tear or trim it away, or use a seam ripper to remove the stitches.

A 35 x 7 inch piece of satin fabric is needed to create the trim. To save on fabric, we cut two 18 x 7 inch pieces of fabric, placed the right sides together and sewed a 1/2 inch seam along one of the shorter ends. Press the seams flat using a pressing cloth with the iron on a low setting.

Lay the fabric right side up. Measure the width and divide by two. Mark a few points along the center and then connect them to create a centerline down the entire length of the fabric. The fabric will be folded along this line later on.

We will embroider on only one side of the centerline. Measure between the edge of the fabric and the centerline, and divide by two. Mark a few points along the center between the centerline and the edge of the fabric. Draw a line down the entire length of the fabric along these points. The designs will be positioned along this line.

Print templates of the designs at full size using embroidery software. Cut around the designs for easier placement.

We are positioning this border design five times across the fabric. Align the horizontal axis line on the template with the line on the fabric. The top of the designs should face toward the edge of the fabric.

We positioned the templates about 1inch from each end and about 1 inch from each other.

Use masking tape to keep the templates in place so they do not slide around. Poke a hole in the center of each template and mark the fabric.

Remove the templates. Spray a piece of tear-away stabilizer with adhesive and hoop it with the fabric. Align the marks on the hoop with the lines on the fabric.

For tips when embroidering on satin, please see these instructions and free video:
Embroidering on Satin

Attach the hoop to the machine, align the needle directly over the center point and embroider the design.

After the first design has finished, unhoop the fabric and re-hoop for the next design.

You will be hooping over the embroidery of the first design, and that is fine. The design will not be damaged by the hoop.

Attach the hoop to the machine, align the needle and embroider the design. Repeat the hooping, aligning and embroidering process for each design.

When all the designs have finished, carefully remove the stabilizer.

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, bringing the right sides together, and pin in place.

Sew a 1/2 inch seam along the long edge only. Leave the ends open.

Turn the fabric right side out and press flat using a pressing cloth.

Top stitch along both long sides with a 1/4 inch seam.  The ends will be turned inward later on, so start and end the top stitch about 1/2 inch from each end.

Turn in each end and sew a 1/4 inch seam closing each end.

Add a drop of hot glue on the edge of the collar and press one end of the trim in place.

Position the trim with the designs facing out, and with about 1/4 inch excess inside the collar. This excess will overlap onto the bottom edge of the holder later on.

At every inch, add a drop of glue under the trim and press in place.

Add another drop of glue on the fabric at that point and fold the trim over about 1/4 inch and press in place.

Repeat this process all the way around the collar.

If you have excess at the end, just continue with the gluing and folding process until all of the trim is attached to the collar.

Add the flowers to the holder and tie ribbon around the base.

You can add embellishments like decorative ribbon flowers. We found our ribbon flower at the craft store. It originally had a pin back, which we removed and hot glued to the base of the holder.

To complete the bouquet, simply insert the holder into the collar, handle first, and secure in place by tucking the bottom edge of the holder into the excess trim at the inside of the collar.
