Freestanding fabric designs have been specially digitized to sew on only a hooped piece of felt, so there is no stabilizer used of any kind. After the pieces are embroidered and cut out, only the embroidery and felt remains, allowing for the pieces to look pretty on both sides.

When you download the design, you will find multiple embroidery files containing all the pieces.

As the freestanding fabric pieces will be seen from both sides, wind a bobbin to match every thread color used in the design.

Hoop the piece of felt firmly. Make sure it is nice and tight with no wrinkles.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load file "a". Embroider the design.

The first thing to embroider will be the "cut line". This marks the area on the felt where the piece will be cut out later.

Follow the color change sheet, and embroider the rest of the design, changing out the bobbins to match every thread color.

After the embroidery has finished, unhoop the felt. Then, using a scissors, carefully cut along the inner edge of the "cut line".

Cutting right along the inner edge will remove the cut line from the edge of the felt piece, leaving a clean felt edge after the piece is cut out.

Repeat the steps above to embroider and cut the rest of the felt pieces.

To begin constructing the rose, start with the single petal piece (file "d"), Curl in the sides of the single petal piece, with the wrong side facing in, until the opposite sides touch, making a loop.

Fold up the bottom of the single petal piece until it touches the stitched together sides.

Sew the folded up bottom pieces to the sides. This will be the center of the rose.

Take the double petal piece (file "c") with the wrong side facing up, line the sewn edges of center piece (file "d") with the middle of the double petal piece and hand stitch the two pieces together around the base of the center petal.

Now, fold the two petals from the double petal piece (file "c") around the center petal piece (file "d") and overlap their sides.

Carefully hand stitch the two petals of the double petal piece (file "c") where they overlap.

Next add the first of the smaller four petal pieces (file "b") to the joined petal pieces.

Make sure the wrong side of the felt is facing up against the other petal pieces and that they're lined up and centered.

Hand stitch the base of the previous petals into the center of the four petal piece (file "b").

To overlap the petals correctly, pick up the petals that are opposite of each other and press them to the center around the centerpieces. Sew them in place.

Then fold the remaining two petals up to overlap the first two, and then hand sew the petals were they overlap.

Repeat the last two steps to add the second of the smaller four petal pieces (the second copy of file "b"), lining up the centers of the petals with the overlaps of the last piece.

Sew it around the base, overlap the petals, and hand stitch them together where they overlap. This time the petals will overlap a little less.

Add the first of the larger four petal pieces (file "a"), again make sure the wrong side of the felt is against the other felt petals and the centers of the petals line up with where the petals overlap on the last piece.

Hand sew the base to attach them together.

Fold up the four petals to overlap just a little, and stitch them together where they overlap.

Repeat to add the last large petal piece (the remaining copy of file "a"), line up the petals and overlaps, and hand sew the bases together.

For this final piece do not overlap the petals. Instead press the edges of each adjacent petal together and sew them together side by side.

Like the flower petals, the leaves will be sewn with the bobbin side up against the petals, with the more detailed side facing out right.

Hand sew the leaf (file "e") in place. Including the "stem" of the leaf.

Finally repeat hand sewing the remaining two leaves (file "e") to the outer petals of the rose.
