When you download an in-the-hoop glasses case design you will find multiple files. Some are embroidery files and the others are dieline files marked with the letters "DL". Dielines are used to cut the fabric to the correct shape and size.

Open and print each dieline file using embroidery software. If you do not have embroidery software, take a look at our helpful video on using dielines.

Spray the backside of the first, front printed dieline piece with temporary adhesive, and smooth it onto the right side of the front fabric.

Cut the front dieline shape out of just the front fabric.

Then cut two pieces of cotton batting and one piece of the lining fabric bigger than the lining dieline. Use temporary spray adhesive to adhere together the two layers of cotton batting and the lining fabric. The wrong side of the fabric should be against the batting. Then adhere the first lining paper dieline to the top of all layers.

Now cut around the lining dieline.

The glasses case design has two embroidery files (labeled "A" and "B"). Using the printed dielines, repeat the previous steps to cut another front fabric piece, and another lining fabric/batting piece. The front and lining dielines for both the A and B embroidery files are exactly the same size, so don't worry about getting them mixed up.

Hoop a piece of tear-away stabilizer. Make sure it is nice and tight with no wrinkles.

Attach the hoop onto the machine and load the first embroidery file "A" (not the dieline file). Use a 75/11 sharp sewing needle instead of an embroidery needle. The sharp sewing needle has a finer point, and it will make smaller perforations in the stabilizer. Then embroider the design.

The first thing to embroider will be the "front piece dieline" (or outline stitch). This marks the area on the stabilizer where the fabric piece will be placed.

After the dieline has sewn, remove the hoop from the machine, but do not unhoop the stabilizer. Spray the stabilizer side of the front fabric piece with temporary adhesive. Smooth the front fabric piece onto the stabilizer inside of the sewn dieline.

Then place the hoop back onto the machine and embroider the tackdown for the front fabric piece. The tackdown will hold the fabric piece in place for the remainder of the design.

After the front fabric piece is in place, all of the inner details of the embroidery will sew out. Stop before sewing the "lining tackdown" step.

Before sewing the "lining tackdown" step, remove the hoop from the machine and turn it over so the back side of the embroidery is facing up. Spray the batting side of the lining fabric piece with temporary adhesive, and smooth it into place on the back side of the embroidery.

As the rest of the embroidery steps will be seen from both sides, wind a bobbin that matches the thread color being used in the top needle. Place the matching bobbin into the machine while embroidering.

Then place the hoop back onto the machine, and embroider the "lining tackdown". This will adhere the lining piece in place on the back side of the hooped stabilizer. Then also embroider the "top finishing edge". This sews a final border along the top edge only where the opening of the glasses case will be.

After embroidering, tear away the excess stabilizer from around the piece. This piece (made by embroidering the "A" file) will be the back piece of the glasses case. Set it aside until it is needed toward the end of embroidering file "B".

Hoop another piece of tear-away stabilizer. Make sure it is nice and tight with no wrinkles. Attach the hoop onto the machine and load embroidery file "B" (not the dieline file). Again, use a 75/11 sharp sewing needle and embroider the design. The first thing to embroider will be the "front piece dieline" (or outline stitch).

After the dieline has sewn, remove the hoop from the machine, but do not unhoop the stabilizer. Spray the stabilizer side of the front fabric piece with temporary adhesive, and smooth it onto the stabilizer inside of the sewn dieline. Then place the hoop back onto the machine and embroider the "front piece tackdown" to hold the fabric piece in place.

After the front fabric piece is in place, all of the inner details of the embroidery will sew out. Stop before sewing the "lining tackdown" step.

Before sewing the "lining tackdown" step, remove the hoop from the machine, and turn it over so the back side of the embroidery is facing up. To make the loop and button closure, cut a piece of elastic that is 6" long, and fold it in half. Position it at the top center of the design on the back of the hoop. Make sure 1 1/2" of the loop sits above the edge of the fabric on the stabilizer. Tape the tails in place on the back of the fabric, and tape the loop in place on the stabilizer.

Then spray the batting side of the second lining fabric piece with temporary adhesive, and smooth it into place on the back side of the embroidery. It should cover the bottom half of the elastic loop.

As the rest of the embroidery steps will be seen from both sides, wind a bobbin that matches the thread in the top needle.

Then place the hoop back onto the machine and embroider the "lining tackdown". This will adhere the lining piece in place on the back side of the hooped stabilizer. Then embroider the "top finishing edge". This sews a final border along the top edge only where the opening of the glasses case will be. Stop before sewing the "back piece tackdown".

Before sewing the "back piece tackdown" step, remove the hoop from the machine, and turn it over so the back side of the embroidery is facing up. Take the back piece that was made using file "A", and spray the outer edges of the lining fabric side with temporary spray adhesive. Be careful to avoid using spray adhesive on the center portion of the back lining piece, as it will make the interior sticky and difficult to open. This could also affect any glasses placed inside the case. Once you've sprayed around the lining edges, place it onto the back of the hoop with lining fabrics together.

Place the hoop back onto the machine and embroider the remaining steps using a matching bobbin. The "back piece tackdown" will embroider first, holding the piece in place, and then the remaining final borders will sew along the two sides and the bottom edge.

After embroidering, tear away the excess stabilizer.

To finish the button and loop closure, fold the elastic over the top opening of the glasses case, and mark where the button should sit on the back side of the case (the back is the side sewn with file "A"). The button positioning should make the elastic loop sit almost flush against the top edge, but not make the elastic start to stretch yet. This way there will be some give for when the glasses are inside. Then hand sew the button in place.
