When you download the in-the-hoop large scissor case design, you will find multiple files. Some are the embroidery files, and the others are dieline files marked with the letters "DL". Dielines are used to cut the fabric to the correct shape and size. Open and print each dieline file using an embroidery software. If you do not have an embroidery software, take a look at our helpful video on using dielines.

Spray a piece of cutaway stabilizer with temporary adhesive, like Gunold's KK100.

Place solid-colored fabric for the front of the case on top of the stabilizer.

Spray the back of the printed dielines with temporary adhesive, and smooth those on top of the fabric.

Cut out the shapes.

To prepare the fabric for the back of the scissor case, cut two pieces of print fabric. Spray the wrong sides with temporary adhesive.

Cut a piece of the lightweight batting to the size of the fabric pieces. Layer the batting between the two pieces of fabric.

Spray the backside of the back dieline with temporary adhesive and smooth it on top of the fabric.

Cut out the shape.

Next, prepare the type of closure that you'd like.

If you'd like a ribbon closure, which is tied into a bow, cut an 18" of 5/8" wide ribbon.

Mark the center by measuring in 9" from either end.

If you'd like a vinyl closure which snaps, cut a piece of vinyl to 5/8" x 4 3/4".

Mark the center of the wrong side by measuring in 2 3/8" from either end.

Now that all the pieces are cut and ready, it's time to make the case.

Hoop a piece of tear-away stabilizer.

Note: When choosing tear-away stabilizer, choose stabilizer that is soft and fibrous. Steer clear of tear-away stabilizer that's stiff or feels too much like paper, as those will not yield good results.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the full embroidery design (not the DL files).

Embroider the design. The first thing to embroider will be an outline for the front fabric piece.

Note: Use a size 11 or 75/11 sharp sewing needle, not an embroidery needle. A sewing needle has a smaller, finer point than an embroidery needle, and that will make smaller, finer perforations in the stabilizer.

Spray the backside of one of the front fabric pieces with temporary adhesive.

Lay the fabric piece right inside the stitched shape. Continue embroidering the design.

A tack down stitch will sew next. This binds the fabric to the stabilizer for the remainder of the design.

Next, the inside elements of the design will sew.

As you embroider, use the color change sheet as your guide.

Watch for a note on the color change sheet marked "front piece edge." When you reach this step, stop the machine. Remove the hoop from the machine.

Spray the backside of the remaining front fabric piece with adhesive.

Place the fabric piece on the back of the embroidery, inside the front dieline shape.

Since the remaining steps will be seen from both sides, wind a bobbin with the same thread that you're using in the needle.

Attach the hoop back to the machine and continue embroidering the design. The front piece top edge will sew next.

Next will be the back piece dieline.

After the back piece dieline has sewn, spray the top edge, side corners, and bottom point with just a quick shot of temporary adhesive.

Place the back piece fabric right inside the dieline shape.

Continue embroidering the design. Tack down stitches will sew next around the entire outer edge of the back fabric piece. Also, a finishing satin stitch border will sew around the top edge.

Next, the dieline for the strap will sew. Shown here in pink, this dieline indicates where you can lay the ribbon or vinyl.

After the strap dieline has sewn, remove the hoop from the machine.

If you are using ribbon for a closure, spray the backside of the ribbon with adhesive behind the center mark. Align the mark on the ribbon with the dieline on the fabric, and press the ribbon in place.

Position the ribbon parallel with the top edge of the case. Also, allow the sides of the ribbon to hang over the sides of the hoop.

If you are using a vinyl strap for a closure, spray the right side of the vinyl behind the mark. Align the mark with the dieline on the fabric and press in place.

Position the strap parallel with the top edge of the case.

Attach the hoop to the machine and continue embroidering the design. Tack down stitches will sew next, and those stitches bind the ribbon or vinyl to the case.

After the design has finished, unhoop the case and tear away the excess stabilizer from the outer edge.

Also, remove the excess stabilizer from the backside of the case, just behind the strap.

Turn the case right side out. Use the blunt end of a pen or pencil to push the top of the case all the way out

To complete the vinyl strap, add the button part of the snap to the right side.

Then, add the inner side of the snap to the other end.

Insert the scissors. Wrap the ends of the straps through the handles, and snap together.

For the ribbon closure, insert the scissors, wrap the ends of the ribbon through the handles, and tie them into a bow.
