Designs Used
This in-the-hoop design has four files. One is the full embroidery file. The other three are dieline files, marked with the letters DL. Dielines are used to cut the fabric to the right shape and size.
Open the dieline files with embroidery software and print them. If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom TrueSizer is a free program to use.
Lightly spray the backside of the printed dieline for the front square with temporary spray adhesive. Then smooth it onto a piece of felt.
Cut out the shape.
Repeat this process for the back dieline and fabric, making sure it is a different fabric than what was used in the front. Then repeat the other dieline piece, using flannel (or another fabic of your choosing) that is a different color. This will be one of the characters used to make the memory game.
Now that the fabric pieces are cut to the proper shape and size, it's time to embroider the design. Hoop a piece of tear-away stabilizer.
Madeira E-Zee Tear 1.5 oz. or Floriani Tearaway Medium are good choices. Those brands are more fibrous, less paper-like, and will tear more cleanly.
Attach the hoop to the machine and load the full embroidery design (not the dieline files). Use a size 11 or 75/11 sharp sewing needle, rather than an embroidery needle. A sharp sewing needle has a smaller, finer point than an embroidery needle, so that will make smaller perforations in the stabilizer.
Embroider the design. The first thing to embroider will be a dieline, or outline stitch. This marks the area on the stabilizer where we'll place the front fabric piece.
Remove the hoop from the machine, but do not unhoop the stabilizer. Spray the back side of the front fabric piece with a small amount of temporary adhesive. Place the fabric right inside the sewn outline.
Attach the hoop back onto the machine and continue with the design. A running stitch tack down will sew next to hold the fabric in place for the remainder of the design. Watch the color change sheet and stop the machine after the next dieline has been sewn.
After the dieline has finished sewing, stop the machine and remove the hoop, but do not remove the stabilizer from the hoop.
Take the fabric dieline for the rocket piece and lightly spray it with temporary spray adhesive. Smoothly place the fabric piece over the dieline; making sure that the dieline is completely covered by the fabric.
Continue to embroider the design. A tackdown will stitch the fabric piece into place followed by the details of the design.
Once the detail has sewn, stop the machine and remove the hoop, but do not remove the stabilizer.
Turn the hoop over and lightly spray the back side of the back piece. Place it inside of the sewn square on the back of the hoop.
Make sure that the bobbin matches the top thread before returning the hoop back onto the machine and finish sewing the design.
Once the embroidery is finished, remove the hoop from the machine and unhoop the stabilizer. Then carefully remove the design from thr tear-away.
To create a full set for the game; repeat these steps, using the other six designs. Be sure to make two copies of each design (including the one that just completed).
