Supplies

Supplies Needed:

**Two placemats

**Medium weight cutaway stabilizer

**Temporary spray adhesive

**60" length of 1/4" wide ribbon (for ties)

Finished Size:
Your finished chair back cover size will depend on the size of your placemats. You'll want to begin by measuring the width of the back of the chair. The back of my chair is 17 1/2" wide and my placemats are 18 1/2" wide.

I found my placemats at Target and Home Goods. They are also available at many retail stores, such as Walmart, Marshalls, and Kohl's.

Designs Used:
I used the large size of the Delft Blue Country Cow and the medium size of the Delft Blue Floral Border. Be sure to see ideas for designs that would be fabulous on a placemat chair back cover at the bottom of this page!

Designs Used

First, embroider the designs on one of the placemats how you want them. I chose a placemat that has a textured area. I embroidered a large design to the left of this area and repeated a border design to the right along the outer edge.

Spray a piece of medium weight cutaway stabilizer with temporary adhesive and smooth the placemat on top.  Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together and embroider the designs. Click here for more information on embroidering borders, including the Endless Hoop.

Lay both placemats flat with the right sides facing up. Align the top edges together (butt them up against one another without overlapping). Zigzag stitch along the seam to tack them together. Fold the placemats together, wrong sides together.

Cut four 20" lengths of 1/4" wide ribbon. Fold the ribbon in half and pin the folded ends on the backside of the placemats at the center of each side edge with about one inch of the ribbon extending onto the placemat.  Stitch in place. Place the cover over the chair back, tie the ribbons, and you are done!

A placemat chair back cover is a fast and fantastic way to change decor for holidays and seasons! Protect furniture and add a quick decorative touch with this fun project.
