Pretty flowers and lace announce to the world that spring is coming!
Create a country kitchen with gathers and lace. Flowered calico is the perfect backdrop for these delicate delft appliques, and a touch of ruffled lace at the top, lends a feminine touch. Just right for a day in the country.

Embroidery Designs from Embroidery Library:
Designs Used
First we'll start by making the applique patches for the front of each canister.
Sew out the designs on the applique fabric. Make sure that the designs are at least an inch apart when sewn out. Determine what shape that you want the applique pieces to be. You may want them to be round or rectangular. I made them rounded to follow the shape of the designs.
You will want to leave at least 1/4 inch of fabric between the edge of the embroidery and the cut edge of the applique. Cut out matching pieces from the fusible webbing, and fuse to the back of the applique pieces.
Creating the gathered body
Measure the height and circumference of each canister body.
Multiply the circumference of each canister body by 1.5. This will be the width of each cover piece.
Add 2 inches to the height of each canister to get the height of each canister piece.
Transfer the measurements for each canister piece to the fabric. Mark out the 4 different rectangles and cut them out along the marked lines.
Create a 10mm or 3/8 inch casing along each long side of the rectangles..
Place the applique pieces in the center of each rectangle. Fuse the pieces into place.
Use an applique stitch to sew the appliques into place. I used a satin applique stitch.
On the wrong side of the top edge of each piece, attach the lace just below the casing. The lace should not interfere with the casing.
Cut 2 pieces of elastic that are the same length as the circumference of each canister.
Thread the elastics through the casings, gathering the fabric as you go. Don't let the ends of the elastic slip inside the casings.
Fold each cover in half, meeting the unfinished ends. Use a 1/2 inch seam allowance to stitch the ends together. The ends of the elastics should also be sewn into the seam.
Slip the covers onto the canisters, and place them in the best spot on your counter. They are definitely for showing off!
