Get your foot into these tiny socks...
....your embroidery foot, that is! Hooping socks can be a challenge for any embroiderer, and tiny baby socks are the ultimate!
We show you how to hoop and embroider socks, both cuffed and uncuffed, so that you can coordinate a wardrobe down to even the smallest detail.
Designs Used
You'll need a pair of socks. They can have either a cuff or plain top.
Choose a design with a height and width that will fit in the area that you want to embroider. Mark the center point for each embroidery design where you want them on each sock.
The design that we are using is an inch high. Collar tip and mini designs work very well in this small area. For this example, we used the miniature bunny design from the Bunny Baby on the Go pack.
If your sock has a cuff:
Tightly hoop a piece of cutaway stabilizer in your smallest hoop. Uncuff the sock and lay the cuff part with the center mark on top of the hooped stabilizer. Pin the cuff to the stabilizer. Insert the pins outside of the sewing area, and stretch the area to be embroidered as little as possible.
Gently stretch the remaining cuff away from the stitching area. Pin the extra fabric to the stabilizer as needed to keep the fabric out of the sewing area and to keep the sock from moving around in the hoop.
Line up your needle with the marked center point and sew out the design so that the bottom of the design is along the edge of the cuff.
These little booties will look adorable on your little cutie! And they will coordinate with all the other items to be embroidered using this Baby on the Go Pack!
On plain-topped socks:
Tightly hoop a piece of cutaway stabilizer in your smallest hoop. Turn the sock inside out, then place the sock on top of the hooped stabilizer so that the marked center point faces up.
Pin the cuff to the stabilizer. Insert the pins outside of the sewing area, and stretch the area to be embroidered as little as possible.
Gently stretch the remaining sock material away from the sewing area and pin to the stabilizer as needed to keep the fabric away from the sewing area and to keep the sock from moving in the hoop.
Line up your needle with the marked center point and sew out the design so that the top of the design is along the top edge of sock.
These little bunny socks will look perfect with a pair of pint-sized tennis shoes!
