Machine embroidery is a beautiful way to add beauty and style to a bar of soap. Add the soap to a gift basket, or use to spruce up your own bathroom decor!
Supplies
- Bar of soap
- Tulle (choose color to match soap)
- Water-soluble stabilizer (Vilene or Sulky Ultra Solvy)
- Permanent multi-purpose spray adhesive
Designs Used
Cut pieces of tulle and watersoluble stabilizer a bit larger than your hoop. Sulky Ultra Solvy or Vilene are both good choices for this project.
Place the water-soluble stabilizer on top of the tulle, and hoop the two together with the tulle on the bottom. Tulle has a mesh texture, so placing the stabilizer on top means that you'll have a smooth surface for stitching.
Attach the hoop to the machine and embroider the design.
When the design has finished, trim the excess stabilizer away. Trim any long threads on the back of the embroidery. Cut the tulle away, leaving a little bit around the embroidery.
Soak to remove the rest of the water-soluble stabilizer. Allow to air dry.
After the piece is dry, apply the piece to the soap. There are a couple of different methods to use: Place a damp sponge on top of the soap to soften it.
Then, press the embroidered piece in place.
Use a damp brush to froth up the soap and cover the tulle.
Or, use Mod Podge. Brush that onto the soap.
Press the embroidered piece in place.
Or, use glue stick. Apply the glue to the soap.
Press the embroidered piece in place. Run the glue stick around the edges.
After the embroidered piece is on the soap and dry, wrap the bar of soap in plastic, and add to a gift basket.
