If you're anything like us, your imagination kicks into gear when you see miniature designs and projects. They can be fun additions to collared shirts and wrist cuffs, napkins and handkerchiefs, or even as details on curtains. But for this quick article, we're highlighting two unique uses for this type of machine embroidery design. Continue reading below to learn more about how we've been exploring and creating new projects with miniatures.

Making a Miniature Doll House Diorama

Doll houses, dioramas, and miniature scenes are always a fun way to incorporate small machine embroidery designs into your projects. In-the-hoop bookmarks can be turned into floor runners, coasters can be turned into rugs, and small designs can be stitched as wall art or even onto tiny pillows! Just look at the rustic writer's cottage created by a member of our marketing team. It was crafted using a 1:12 scale.

For the centerpiece of the diorama, our team member couldn't resist utilizing the Mug Rug (In-the-Hoop) from Urban Threads. It looks like a small scale vintage Persian rug (complete with fringe!). The original thread colors were changed to fit the scene's asthetic.  All colors are listed below:

CC1: Moss Green #1189

CC2: Moss Green #1189

CC3: Liquid Gold #1225

CC4: Conch Shell #1220

CC5: Coconut Cream #1072

CC6: Latte #1055

CC7: Moss Green #1189

CC8: Celery #1451

CC9: Liquid Gold #1225

CC10: Clover #1070

CC11: Emerald Black #1000

CC12: Coconut Cream #1072

CC13: Moss Green #1189

CC14: Moss Green #1189

For the final color change the bobbin was matched to the top needle thread. Maroon felt was used for the base fabric.

When it came to decor for the miniature scene, it only made sense to incorporate our Itty Bitty Cross Stitch Designs. A few years back our team turned these adorable designs into necklaces using miniature hand embroidery hoops. Now they've been upcycled into woodland wall art! The mushroom and the ladybug fit the asthetic perfectly. You can find similar miniature hand embroidery hoops on Amazon.

What sort of designs would you use to create your own whimsical scene?

Creating a Miniature Collage Pillow

Project number two takes miniature designs and turns them into a pillow that's perfect for any cozy sitting area! There's a hummingbird,  a watermelon, a silly crow, and even a cow. When it comes to projects like this, choosing a variety of different motifs helps to create a fun and ecclectic look. Our team members chose denim for the main pillow fabric, then framed each miniature with playful accent fabric to create a collage inspired by postage stamps.

With so many miniature designs to choose from on our site, each pillow can be truly unique.

All the designs we used for these projects are listed below! Happy stitching and creating.
