Designs Used

First, to prepare the side pieces for embroidery, cut two 11 inch wide by 7 inch high rectangles from the fabric.

The embroidered designs should be positioned in the center of each of the side pieces.

Spray a piece of cutaway stabilizer with a bit of temporary spray adhesive and smooth the fabric on top.

Then, hoop the fabric and stabilizer together and embroider the designs.  When the designs have finished, trim away the excess stabilizer.

Next, cut another piece of fabric 11 inches wide by 7 inches high this will be the bottom of the duffel.  Also, cut two 7 inch by 7 inch squares and two 4 inch by 11 inch rectangles.  The square pieces are for the ends of the duffel and the rectangle pieces are for the top.

To create the top of the duffel, fold one long side of each of the top fabric pieces over 1/4 inch and align the folded edges with the sides of the zipper.

Pin in place.

Using a zipper foot, sew a 1/8 inch seam along the folded edge of the fabric.  Do this on both sides of the zipper.

Join the side pieces together by alternating the square and rectangle pieces.

To do this, align each piece right sides together.  Pin in place and sew a 1/2 inch seam along the pinned edge.

This will make a continuous side piece.

Pin the top piece to the top edges of the side pieces.  Match the corners of the top piece with the seams of the side pieces.

Use a 1/2 inch seam to attach the top piece to the side pieces.

Unzip the zipper of the top piece and turn the bag inside out.

To prepare the handle, fold the strapping in half, with the cut edges together.

On one side of the bag in the bottom center, pin the strapping to the fabric so that the ends of the strapping will be sewn into the bottom seam

Pin the bottom piece of fabric to the bottom side pieces.  Match the corners of the bottom pieces with the seams of the side pieces.

Sew a 1/2 inch seam to attach the bottom to the sides.  Turn the duffel right side out through the open zipper.

Fill the duffel with diapers, wipes, and any other little necessities.
